The Big River Brass Band celebrated their 20th Anniversary in 2025. To commemorate this milestone, we commissioned composer Kevin Poelking to write a piece that celebrated our history from a handful of friends playing together in the basement to the 45-member ensemble the Big River Brass Band is today. Kevin's writing in this piece is brilliant! Five of the original members still perform with the Big River Brass Band and Kevin took the opportunity to showcase those five members - starting with our two co-founders before adding the remaining three for a lyrical quintet moment. He then added back the rest of the Band including our final, "honorary" member, organist Chris Nelson. "As It Came To Be" is a magnificent piece and quickly became a favorite amongst the band members. Kevin gave us a piece and an experience in our 20th anniversary that we will never forget! Thank you!
