In this webcast, I break down the Rate of Change (ROC) indicator and show how it might be used to identify potential short-term stock cycle lows and highs within an existing trend. We start by covering how the ROC indicator is constructed, what its values and colors represent, and how to interpret its movement relative to the zero line. From there, we discuss why momentum-based indicators like ROC are often used alongside a trend filter, rather than in isolation.

After laying that foundation, I walk through bullish and bearish trade scenarios, including common entry signals and the conditions that might invalidate them. We’ll also cover different approaches to planning exits, such as indicator behavior, price target levels, and chart-based stop placement. To tie everything together, the session concludes with a real-time example long stock trade placed on the paperMoney version of the thinkorswim Desktop trading platform, showing how a trader might translate indicator signals into a structured trade plan.
