Distribution systems carry electricity between the transmission system and the customers and are thus, the last stage in the delivery of electric power to users. Feeders are the connecting element between the distribution substation and the final user. Because of this, protecting them properly is crucial in the double task of preserving human life and maintaining continuity of service.
This webinar will present a comprehensive review of the theory behind distribution feeder protection as well as the techniques and strategies used to achieve it. Both radial and networked distribution systems and their applications will be presented. The challenges faced by the protection engineer during the design and testing of feeder protection systems as well as strategies for the automation of distribution system feeder protection and the integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) systems will be discussed. We will end with a discussion of the tools available for the evaluation of the performance of distribution feeder protection systems.
