KAYAK TEST: Testing the limits of the Airfusion EVO inflatable kayak from Advanced Elements!

Took out the #AdvancedElements #AirfusionEVO inflatable kayak in the inner #archipelago east of Nynäshamn, 45 km south of Stockholm, Sweden. This was in early June and while the air temperature was reasonable, the water temperatures were still cold and as such, I was wearing a drysuit and appropriate clothing.

This was a good test for the Airfusion EVO to deal with waves and some surf, which it handled much better than expected stability- and performance-wise. In this case, I was not using the Advanced Elements skeg, and a large deck bag as I needed space for extra gear.

While setting up the EVO in Nynäshamn I initially had the inflatable front thwart (which functions as foot rest) placed too close. After the initial stretch I went ashore to readjust and immediately had a much easier (and also more stable) paddle experience. I also had an issue with my spray skirt which led to myself taking some calculated risks while choosing routes. The majority of the trip was in relatively protected water by the islands, but there was a section of heavier waves open towards the sea. In retrospect, I might have made a few different judgment calls if doing the same trip today, but things worked out well and I came back after a good paddle experience and more impressed by the EVO than before.

The island where I stopped for dinner is Stora Rammklov which provides great panoramic views over the Baltic Sea. Met the Gotland ferry on my way back!
