OMAN OVERLAND - Offroad adventure - Sugar Dunes and Wahiba Sands desert crossing - Oman Ep.2

Join us on another thrilling episode of our overlanding journey through Oman in our Toyota Landcruiser Troopy HZJ75! 🚙✨

In this episode, we venture into the mesmerizing Sugar Dunes. With no clear tracks, navigating deep into the dunes was more challenging than we anticipated, but we managed to set up camp and explore further on foot during a magical sunset. 🌅

Avoiding the highway, we followed offroad tracks close to the coastline. However, flooded salt pans forced us back to the asphalt roads, where we encountered a roadblock in Mahout town. Due to flooding in the north of Oman, the dry wadis were now full of water, preventing us from continuing our route. Despite the long and adventurous detour, we finally reached Bar Al Hikman. Known as the Maldives of Oman, it didn’t feel like paradise for us due to the trash on the beach.

Next, we tackled the Wahiba Sands desert, crossing from south to north. A 4x4 is essential here to handle the soft sand, especially in the less-traveled southern region. Trailfinding was easier this time of year, as recent rains had turned the desert into a green field with clear tracks between the shrubs. We enjoyed our final wildcamp in the desert, soaking in the serene beauty of the Middle Eastern deserts one last time.

In the next episode, we’ll explore the wadis and mountains in the north of Oman, the perfect way to cool down as temperatures rise. 🌄💧
