Donkey Kong - Melee Event 51 The Showdown (No stock loss)

Of the eight characters I've never three stocked The Showdown with, Donkey Kong is the first of them I managed it with in my endeavor to do it and record it with every character.

DK is a strong character, but you can definitely notice he's significantly weaker than he is in Brawl, and often times it seems his killing moves end up just short of KOing. I would get a long uair juggle on Giga Bowser to over 100%, and then my forward/up smash finisher fails to kill him. As expected, DK will eat a ton of damage if he gets caught, so you have to evade going between everyone at all costs, and use Spinning Kong above everyone to the other side if you're about to get cornered. DK also gets shut down by Giga Bowser's jab, so it's imperative you stay out of his jab reach and approach with aerials from above. And of course, DK's small shield will prove annoying with many shield pokes.

While it's tough for DK, it's not all gloom for him. His uair can juggle Giga Bowser marvelously; you can bring him from zero to over 100% with it and potentially get a kill at the end of it. Of course Mewtwo will often interfere, preventing you from pulling zero-deaths on Giga Bowser, but it's still the best way to rack up damage and setup kills on Giga Bowser. DK's fair works really well here, where its your goto kill move on Giga Bowser when he's beyond killing percent for your smashes, with its non-meteor smash hitbox killing reliably around 125%, and its meteor smash hitbox being better for comboing Giga Bowser into a killing smash (as dair may send him up too high at this damage range). DK's Spinning Kong is also a great emergency move, that can allow him to escape to the other side of the stage safely, and rack up some damage on Giga Bowser in the process.
