Many players hear Caesar’s tent speech in New Vegas and shrug it off as a joke version philosophy. He drops a simplified history lesson, leans on the “thesis / antithesis / synthesis” formula, and sounds at first glance like someone who skimmed a pop-Hegel summary to justify his brutality. It is easy to dismiss his knowledge of Hegel and leave it there.
If we only listen to the most quoted lines from Caesar’s tent speech, he sounds like a villain who picked up on overused philosophical slogans. His use of the “thesis / antithesis / synthesis” cliche encourages that reading. Once we place that speech back into his biography and the structure of Hegel’s thought, another picture appears.
Q: Whom do you usually side with?
A: The House always wins
Q: Hegel sounds like word salad, what's the TL;DR of German Idealism as a movement?
A: Read my primer on how German Idealism developed, leading to modern moral universalism: https://viatorinterra.substack.com/p/...
Q: Must I study philosophy to become a philosopher?
A: Strictly speaking, any man who uses abductive reasoning to form axiomatic frameworks is a philosopher. Aristotle writes of this. Of course, these axiomatic frameworks must properly map onto and into reality instead of being 2deep4me word salad. Do not study philosophy per se - read Aristotle and study political economy, behavioral science, mathematical (NOT "theoretical") physics, mathematical (NOT "theoretical") economics, and magickal practice.
