We were so excited to start our road trip, and even happier that it began in Hoekwil, yet another beautiful mountaintop village in the Western Cape, this one along South Africa’s Garden Route. The drive up the Hoekwil Pass was incredible, with breathtaking views over Wilderness and the Serpenntine River that made us stop just to take it all in. When we arrived in the village, we were welcomed by its small-town charm and friendly people. We popped into the Hoekwil Country Café for a slice of their famous cheesecake, which was absolutely amazing, and then visited Floreer, where we met some of the locals selling their products. Hoekwil left us with such a warm impression, it’s definitely a place we’ll be visiting again.
