Today, an upper-air trough, surface trough, and high pressure are set to impact the weather this weekend. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected over the Eastern Cape Province, KwaZulu-Natal Province, and Free State Province, with some storms potentially severe, bringing hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. A cold front will arrive by Monday, causing gusty winds nationwide, particularly with bergwinds in the Eastern Cape Province and KwaZulu-Natal Province, leading to hot and dry conditions. Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with strong winds, hail, and localized flooding and damage are expected in southern and central KwaZulu-Natal Province. Extremely high fire conditions are anticipated in western Free State Province, North West Province, east and central Northern Cape Province.
