How to Set & Change Background Sounds Timer on iPhone in iOS 26

Want to control how long your iPhone plays Background Sounds like rain, ocean, or white noise? In this quick guide, I’ll show you how to set, change, or turn off the Background Sounds timer on your iPhone running iOS 26 or later. Whether you use it for sleep, focus, or relaxation, you can easily customize the timer right from your settings.

change up that Background Sounds Timer on your iPhone.
Alright, let’s dive right in.
First things first, open your Settings app and head over to Accessibility.
Scroll down till you hit the Hearing section, then tap on Audio & Visual.
Now, find Background Sounds and tap on that.
Scroll down a bit and you’ll see this option called Stop Sounds with a Timer. Tap it and flip that toggle on.
Now you got two ways to roll with it.
You can either pick ‘At a Specific Time’ to tell your iPhone exactly when to cut the sounds.
Just hit that ‘Stop at’ box and set it up how you want.
Or you can go with ‘After an amount of time’ so your sounds stop after a certain period.
Tap the ‘Stop After’ box and scroll to dial in how many hours and minutes you’re feelin’.
Oh, and there’s also an ‘Always use these settings’ switch.
Turn that on if you wanna keep these timer settings locked in whenever Background Sounds are running.
Once you got that sorted, make sure the main Background Sounds toggle is switched on.
Then just scroll down a bit and you’ll see a live countdown showing how much time’s left before your background sounds cut off automatically.
You can also peep it from the Control Center.
Just swipe down, long-press the Background Sounds icon, and boom — you’ll see the timer countdown at the top with a volume slider right under it.
