Natayanjali is a tribute to Lord Nataraja. Here, Lord Shiva is called the Natayacharya to Girija(Goddess Gauri or Parvathi). This Song is in praise of Lord Shankara in Kannada language. It is a rare composition of Sri. Raja S Gururajacharya—17th Century composer and Sri M R Muralidharan, to which music is composed and sung by Srikanth Gopalakrishnan, and the dance is composed Akhila Chetan of Kalagangotrhi Foundation, NJ- USA.

ಮಣಿಯುವೆ ನಿನ್ನಡಿಗನುದಿನ ಮುರಹರ ||
ಢಣಢಣ ಢಣಢಣ ಎಂದು ಡಮರುಗ ಧ್ವನಿಸಲು
ಠಣಠಣಠಣ ಎಂದು ವೃಷಭವು ನಲಿಯೇ
ಝುಣತಕ ತಕಝುಣ ತಾಕಿಟ ತಕ ಕಿಟ
ಝುಣ ಎಂದು ನಂದಿ ಮೃದಂಗವ ಬಾರಿಸಲು ||೧||
ಹರಹರಹರಹರ ಎಂದು ಗಣಗಳು ಸ್ತುತಿಸಲು
ಪೊರೆಯಂದಹಿವಿದ್ದು ಗಂಗೆಯು ನಮಿಸೆ
ಸರಿಗಮಪದನಿಸ ಸ್ವರಗಳ ಪಾಡುತ
ನಾರದ ತುಂಬುರ ಗಾನವ ಮಾಡಲು ||೨||
ವರಕಮಲೇಶನ ಚರಿತೆಯ ಜಗದೊಳು
ಪರಿಪರಿ ಭಾವದಿ ನರ್ತಿಸಿ ತೋರುತ
ಪೊರೆಯುತ ಭಕುತರ ವರವೀಯುತ ಬಾ
ಗಿರಿಜಾಲಿಂಗಿತ ನಾಟ್ಯಾಚಾರ್ಯ ||೩||

ಕುಣಿಯುತ ನಲಿಯುತ ಬಾ ಶಂಕರ
maṇiyuve ninnadiga nudina murahara

Come, O Shankara! Dance and smile joyfully.
I bow daily at your feet, O Murahara (slayer of the demon Mura – a name of Shiva/Vishnu, depending on context, but here Shiva).

ಢಣಢಣ ಢಣಢಣ ಎಂದು ಡಮರುಗ ಧ್ವನಿಸಲು
ಠಣಠಣಠಣ ಎಂದು ವೃಷಭವು ನಲಿಯೇ
With the vibrant beat of the damaru resounding “Dhaṇa Dhaṇa,”
And the bull (Vrishabha, Nandi) joyfully stepping to the rhythm “Taṇa Taṇa Taṇa,”

ಝುಣತಕ ತಕಝುಣ ತಾಕಿಟ ತಕ ಕಿಟ
ಝುಣ ಎಂದು ನಂದಿ ಮೃದಂಗವ ಬಾರಿಸಲು ||೧||
To the intricate rhythmic patterns “Jhuṇataka takajhuṇa taakita taka kita,”
Nandi plays the mridangam, making music that fills the air.

ಹರಹರಹರಹರ ಎಂದು ಗಣಗಳು ಸ್ತುತಿಸಲು
ಪೊರೆಯಂದಹಿವಿದ್ದು ಗಂಗೆಯು ನಮಿಸೆ
As the ganas (Shiva’s attendants) chant “Hara Hara Hara Hara” in praise,
Even the River Ganga, nestled in your matted locks, bows in devotion.

ಸರಿಗಮಪದನಿಸ ಸ್ವರಗಳ ಪಾಡುತ
ನಾರದ ತುಂಬುರ ಗಾನವ ಮಾಡಲು ||೨||
With the notes Sa Ri Ga Ma Pa Da Ni Sa resounding in the air,
Sage Narada sings melodies, strumming his tambura in divine joy.

ವರಕಮಲೇಶನ ಚರಿತೆಯ ಜಗದೊಳು
ಪರಿಪರಿ ಭಾವದಿ ನರ್ತಿಸಿ ತೋರುತ
Dance across the world, expressing the divine stories
Of Lord Varakamalesha (Vishnu – the lotus-eyed Lord) with deep and varied emotions.

ಪೊರೆಯುತ ಭಕುತರ ವರವೀಯುತ ಬಾ
ಗಿರಿಜಾಲಿಂಗಿತ ನಾಟ್ಯಾಚಾರ್ಯ ||೩||
Come, granting boons and blessings to your devotees,
O Natyacharya (master of dance), embraced by Girija (Parvati).

Meaning of the song -

Oh beloved Natyacharya (Dance Teacher)of Girija,
You dance with divine expressions,
Weaving tales of the great Lord Varakamalesha—
Lord Vishnu, the lotus-eyed protector.

To the sacred rhythms of the damaru,
The resonant beats of Nandi’s mridanga,
And the melodious swaras of Narada’s tambura,
You move with grace, blessing your devotees.

O Shankara!
You leap and twirl in majestic joy,
Dancing ecstatically in blissful splendor.
