I travel to the city of Quetzaltenango (also known as Xela) in Guatemala to go on a hike with private guide up to Volcan Chicabal.
Laguna de Chicabal is formed in the crater of the volcano and is sacred to the Mayan people as it holds special spiritual significance. It is prohibited to swim in the lake.
As we descent down to the lake, and to my complete surprise, we stumble upon a rare religious ceremony. I was privileged to observe it up-close and out of respect I only started filming after they finished their prayers.
In this video you also get a brief tour of the tiny Airbnb house I stayed in, located an upscale neighborhood outside the center of Quetzaltenango, called Labor Las Vegas.
