It's taken me over a month, but I made a Plus-Size Redthreaded Victorian Corset! It's the 1870s -1890s model, which should give a similar silhouette to my late Victorian, early Edwardian Great-Great Grandmother's photo*.
I also ranted a bit about the fit and sizing of modern brassieres and the weight loss industry. I mean, if the bra fits, great, but does it have to cost so much for basic essentials? Between the two industries, it's like it's the world's greatest scam.
So my solution? Find a comfortable, supportive, figure-smoothing garment that can be made relatively easily and could last longer than two trips through the laundry (yes, I know you don't toss corsets in the wash. I'm not a total heathen)
*At least, I think that's their family photo. All signs point to the eldest girl being my Great-Grandmother from other labelled family pictures, at least. If anyone has evidence to the contrary, I'd love to find out!
