Hi YouTube, this is the 250 mile riding update about my awesome beater bike, a 1981 Panasonic Sport 1000. I previously made a video about this in which I called it the perfect beater bike. It turns out to be even better - it handled my tenth metric century and fourth longest ride, a 66.2 mile trip from North Potomac/Gaithersburg to Laurel, Maryland and back via Brookeville, more than adequately this past Sunday. I was surprised a bike this heavy (~29 lbs) built from virtual gaspipe (straight gauge 1020) could ride so quickly (15 mph) over such a long distance. It rides incredibly smoothly, even if the hefty rigid frame and chrome handlebars transmit more road buzz than the road bikes I'm used to. I look forward to riding this Panasonic thousands of miles more and recording 500 and 1000 mile riding updates in the near future. First, of course, I'll have to replace the rim tape and fix the flat rear tire.
