Miata Engine Teardown! Project Miata what went wrong?
Today on RH2RACING we work with Leroy Engineering to tear down project Miata's engine. After engine trouble took us out of the action we took it up to Ohio to Leroy Engineering to get a forged engine built. Today we show the teardown and then measure it up to see how bad the wear is on a 224,000 mile motor.
Turns out it ate a sparkplug and being an engine with over 200,000 miles, it was just tired. The sparkplug ground electrode broke off and bounced around the head for a bit see the 11:00 mark or so.
2 of the pistons just about fell out on their own so compression was a thing of the past. The leak down test showed 40% coming right out of the intake so that wasn't good. All together this engine was done.
