BRASS FROM THE PAST: Very Rare 1902 Besson & Co. Enharmonic Compensating Bb Cornet. Made in London, England. The compensating system directs the air flow through additional tubing which allows notes that are normally out of tune to be played in tune without adjusting any slides. Some systems use extra valves. The compensating system was invented in the late 1800s. It was somewhat impractical for cornets and did not catch on. But it is still used extensively on Euphonium‘s and Tubas. Listen to sounds from the past. About 120 years ago more or less. Wynton Marsalis: “Buddy Bolden Blues”. Buddy Bolden was at his peak when this horn was made.
