Matteo Carcassi's (1792-1853) 25 Etudes Mélodiques Progressives op. 60 has been the composer's most succesful work for guitar along with his Method. Carcassi was compared to Fernando Sor as one of the most notable guitar virtuosos in Paris during the 1820s-30s. The Parisian newspaper Vert-vert (20 décembre 1835) wrote "there is vigor, grace, passion in the performance of this artist" and guitarist Napoleon Coste recalled years later that "he was particularly a talented performer who elicited a beautiful tone from the guitar".
These performances were recorded chronologically at my home studio during 2016-2019, so the sound varies sometimes between etudes. The guitar used in these recordings is a copy of Fabricatore (c. 1813) by Gioachino Giussani.
