Supported Decision Making for Independence and Growth

Supported decision making (SDM) is a unique and empowering process for helping an adult who needs decisional support but does not want a guardian. It is gradually becoming recognized worldwide so that an adult’s SDM team can have access to information previously provided only to legal guardians.

In this video from our 2024 family and research conference, you will learn from two speakers. Jonathan Gardner is an adult with autism who has been using SDM for several years with fascinating and exciting results. Ronna Caras is Director of Training for The Center for Guardianship Excellence. The Center has developed tools and training to help families and professionals through the steps of creating their own SDM programs.
