The Hayduke Trail: Moab to Hite

On March 13th, 2021 Jamie (Sparrow) and I set out from Moab to hike segments two and three of the Hayduke Trail. The Hayduke is not a trail like the AT, PCT, CDT, etc. It is merely a described 800 mile route across the Colorado Plateau. We hiked 150 of those miles across amazing and difficult terrain. Only sometimes is the route on a dirt road or singletrack trail. Often you are hiking down washes, into and out of deep canyons, and across the open desert.

Snow/sleet/rain on the first day filled all the potholes on the slickrock with water which made things much easier.

We used the guidebook’s route description and Andrew Skurka’s supplemental guide to navigate. I synthesized this into a single CalTopo for this section. Feel free to pm me if you would like a link to it. GPS tracks of our route can be found on my Strava.
