The Hayduke Trail: Hanksville to Escalante

On March 19th, 2022 Jamie (Sparrow) and I set out from Hanksville to hike segments five and six of the Hayduke Trail. We shuttled cars and hitched out of the Outlaw's Roost restaurant (highly recommend!). We stayed true to the standard Hayduke with the only exception being the low elevation alternate around the Hayduke.
This meant we did the 25.5 miles through the Escalante River Gorge. It was tedious and difficult hiking yet fun and gorgeous. I did not do much filming through the brushiest parts of it. The Escalante took one and a half days, and this entire hike took 6.5 days.
This section was beautiful and very remote.
We used the guidebook’s route description and Andrew Skurka’s supplemental guide to navigate. I synthesized this into a single CalTopo for this section. Feel free to pm me if you would like a link to it. GPS tracks of our route can be found on my Strava.
