A 120 beats per minute metronome. Effective Basic Life Support (CPR) requires a chest compression rate of between 100 - 120 per minute according to the American Heart Association.
This 120 beats per minute metronome is the upper limit of the effective chest compression range. Generally, a 110 beats per minute metronome is most effective for BLS Providers because it allows for some variation in either direction while remaining effective. Instructors may find this 120 bpm metronome useful to demonstrate to a student what the fastest acceptable chest compression rate sounds like.
