RENEGADE "NEW LEVELS" (ZX SPECTRUM - FULL GAME)

Zeus presents Renegade+ (128k Mod - New Levels) (un-emulated) for the zx spectrum, a rarity update of a true classic game from the golden era of spectrum gaming which must not be forgotten alongside the software house and all programmers that were involved in making this game.

Well, what a rarity I found here, the classic Renegade on the Spectrum with 5 new backgrounds!
I have never seen any footage of this version anywhere apart from some screen shots so I always wondered if the game it'self actually existed and to my surprise after some searching I managed to find a 48k TAP file for it.
After seeing this, the search for the 128k version began and thankfully the programmer supplied me a Z80 file which was then converted to a TZX file thanks to my retro machine repairer and thus allowed me to load the game into my real 128 machine,...THANKS IAN!!!
Redesigned by Rafal Miazga in 2013, these 5 new backgrounds give the game a fresh lease of life and as I found myself getting ready for level 1, I got goosebumps just as I did when I first played the original on the speccy all those years ago.
The gameplay is exactly the same, all moves and sounds are the same but with fresh backgrounds, also level 3 (Bertha stage) now has other Renegade pimps along with the women set in a night club.
The enemies are even more intelligent, they are also harder to defeat and take more hits to KO, in fact there are a couple more baddies on screen at the same time on the later levels making it more of a challenge with a fraction slow down on level 5 at times but considering the speccy is controlling 8 characters at the same time, I think that can be forgiven, in fact I think that's very impressive for an 8-bit machine.
A great update to a classic spectrum game, so if you feel the original Renegade is a bit easy for you now, then I suggest trying this version as it will provide a tougher challenge and it will be interesting to see if the same is done with Target Renegade if that ever happens.
