On the 3DS version of this game, there are a handful of skins that are locked behind streetpass. I used NetPass’s “Back Alley” feature to inject streetpass hits in this game. It takes 15 hits to unlock them all.
On the DS version, to unlock these you have to link your game to the now defunct World of Cars game. For Mater’s costume there is a code given to you in the game’s box that you can redeem.
So unfortunately the DS versions skins are still lost for now :(
Yes I’m aware the quality is terrible, I did this on my modded 3DS which doesn’t have a capture card
