#OnThisDay in 1969, Queen Elizabeth II drove a tube train as she opened the newest stretch of London's Victoria Line. After making a speech in which she joked about the proximity of the building works to Buckingham Palace, the Queen declared the line open, before driving the train herself along the most recent extension of the London Underground rail network.
