Thoughts:
Otomedius Gorgeous! is an enhanced port of Otomedius that really improves upon the arcade original. First they added in additional stages with the ability to play them all in order so you no longer are limited to play three stages until game over. They added wide screen support. They removed the burst ability which was essentially a bomb attack which isn't a big deal. They also removed the feature to start with shields though you can get additional shields through powerups which you couldn't do in the arcade original. Another thing which is missing is the difficulty select when you start missions as the mission select screen is missing and they took out the element collecting as well. However in addition to the enhanced version of the game. They also including an arcade perfect port of Otomedius in Otomedius Gorgeous!. In fact this is the only way to get additional starting weapons in Otomedius Gorgeous! mode which is the enhanced version. Another thing you could do at the time is install downloadable content. Most of the DLC is the change the soundtrack for the stages.

Overall I'd say this is a better version than the arcade original and it's a good enhanced port that also includes the original arcade version. I'd check it out if you have the ability to. It was never ported sadly and lives on the Xbox 360 to this day. Maybe it will be released on modern platforms on day? It was never in English either, though both the arcade and the Xbox 360 port got English fan translations.
