Derive the formula for power transmitted by the wave on a string. How does intensity drop off with distance for 3-D, 2-D, 1-D wave propagation? You can see below that it was correctly pointed out to me by colleague Mritunjay Tripathy, / Канал , that there is a mistake in the video: I correctly identify the kinetic energy is maximized in the part of the string that has zero displacement (and maximum velocity) but incorrectly claim that the potential energy is maximized in the maximally displaced section of string. The potential energy is actually in the stretching of the string that has zero displacement. Hence the maximum kinetic AND potential energy is in the section of string at zero displacement. My explanation in this video is correct for a simple harmonic oscillator, which I incorrectly applied for a moving wave. I thank Mritunjay Tripathy for pointing this out.
