This musical wasn’t made for me. So why did it break me?”

In this video, I reflect on how Wicked: Part 1 unexpectedly became one of the most emotional experiences of my life. As a neurodivergent, aromantic Black man with deep roots in religion, I didn’t expect a fantasy musical to echo my story — but it did.

I walk through five key scenes:
The Wizard and I, The Oz Dust Ballroom, I’m Not That Girl, One Short Day, and Defying Gravity — and how each of them reflected my own journey through faith, shame, loneliness, and finally, self-acceptance.
