Did you know that 70% of the Earth's surface is covered by water, and 70% of that water is used in agricultural activities? With increasing population and water scarcity issues, this fact is alarming. Well, Hydroponics offers a solution by minimizing water usage in farming.
This is the third video of our "Beginner's Guide to Hydroponics" course, in which we will explore different hydroponic systems that can help save water in farming.
The first technique is DWC, which involves submerging plants or roots in water, allowing them to absorb nutrients directly while the vegetative part remains above the water surface. Bubbleponics is a variation of DWC where plants are placed in net pots on a water reservoir system with air and water pumps for nutrient delivery. For large-scale farming, R-DWC features a common water collection tank with oxygenation, delivering nutrient-rich water to plants using a pump. These techniques keep water covered to prevent evaporation and wastage, and offer precise control over resources. DWC is ideal for growing leafy vegetables due to their small root space requirements.
Drip system is a hydroponic technique that uses pipes or tubes to deliver nutrition directly to plant roots through dripping. Channels are designed with modifications to deliver water and nutrients efficiently, conserving water and minimising wastage.
Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) is a hydroponic technique that allows crops to grow without a traditional growing medium. Nutrient-rich water is constantly circulated over the roots of the plants in channels, allowing direct nutrient absorption. Channels are designed with a slight slope for water flow and can be made from various materials. NFT is suitable for a wide range of crops, from leafy greens to long-rooted vegetables.
Ebb and Flow, also known as flood and drain, is a hydroponic technique where water is circulated for a set period of time and then drained out. This allows for controlled nutrient absorption by the roots and promotes healthy air circulation. The water holding capacity of the growing bed is customised to meet the crop's requirements, minimising water wastage. This technique offers advantages such as precise nutrient control and efficient water usage.
In conclusion, these hydroponic techniques offer precise nutrient control, prevent evaporation, and minimize water wastage, making them sustainable options for modern agriculture.

Why choose eeki?
✔ Innovated a sustainable farming technology that enables us to utilise barren land in the most productive manner, allowing the farm partners to earn lucrative tax-free income.
✔ Developed our patented growing chambers that creates an ideal growing environment for the plant’s root zone, without using any growing media like soil or coco-peat, enabling the low-cost production of pesticide-free vegetables.
✔ Unlike other modern farming practices like vertical farming and NFT, we’ve developed crop-specific nutrition recipes that produce highly nutritious as well as tasty vegetables.
✔ Built IoT control mechanisms that allow us to remotely manage all the farm vitals, thereby reducing reliance on manual labour.
