This talk features Gordon Pratt, PhD, and Dennis Walker who will provide an overview of their new book, The Butterflies and Skippers of Joshua Tree National Park. Dr. Pratt discusses the life histories, behaviors, nectar plants, and caterpillar food plants of many of the butterflies and skippers of the area. This book functions as both a guide for the uninitiated and a reference work for the seasoned lepidopterist. The emphasis on caterpillar food plants and the immature stages of the butterflies sets the book apart. And while the focus is on Joshua Tree, most of the species are found elsewhere, some even in our own backyards, making the book a valuable resource for nature lovers. Through this presentation and the book, they hope to encourage the public to plant native plants that will encourage native butterflies and skippers to live in their area. The program was presented in person at Riverside-Corona Research Conservation District, as well as online. For more information please visit our website: www.riverside-sanbernardino.cnps.org.
