Portland-based Indie Rock Band Glitterfox tells the story of how their Basque song came to be produced with a disco beat. Singer Solange Igoa loves her Basque culture and celebrates this song written by Xabier Lete, Xalbadorren Heriotzean. It is a song and poem about Xalbador, a Basque poet and sheepherder of Urepel. Hear more about how Jennifer Lynn Conlee-Drizos, musician with The Decemberists, provided accordion tracks.
The four-piece band’s songwriters and frontpersons, married couple Solange Igoa (a Bakersfield Basque) and Andrea Walker, have always channeled their personal struggles as well as experiences as queer, neurodivergent individuals into their songwriting. Bassist Eric Stalker and drummer Blaine Heinonen bring a love of Americana, grunge and dance music into the mix.
They are part of a new record label Kill Rock Stars and are produced by Chris Funk of The Decemberists.
WHO ARE THE BASQUES?
The unique Basque people come from the region of northern Spain and southern France and speak the oldest language of Europe, which they call "Euskara."
