This is what the aftermath of one of the biggest 2019-2020 bushfires on Australia's east coast looks like.
The Currowan fire which began in late November 2019, and is still "being controlled" in mid January, has consumed 480,000 hectares of forest and farmland. It's 140 km from north to south and something like 50km wide, on average.
We take a drive along the recently reopened Kings Highway, which connects Canberra to Batemans Bay, passing through 40 km of the burned area.
