Prior to writing his Piano Concerto No. 2, Sergei Rachmaninoff had endured three years of drunkenness and depression which was largely the outcome of a disastrous debut of his first symphony. However, despite being on a hiatus from performing for eight years, the debut of the first movement of his Piano Concerto No. 2 was met with rapturous applause and accolades. Comments included “This work contains much poetry, beauty, warmth, rich orchestration, healthy and buoyant creative power”. It has since been a staple in American film such as "The Seven Year Itch" and other forms of expression like gymnastics and figure skating.
George Gershwin composed his jazz/classical inspired "Rhapsody In Blue" for solo piano and jazz band in 1924. Clarinetist, Ross Gorman was responsible for the famous, inimitable opening clarinet glissando. It has been used since. The composition is still used in film, commercials and is often performed by famous solo pianists.
This (in my humble opinion) is a video of Old Hollywood's 100 most beautiful actresses. My apologies if I have omitted your favorite. Enjoy! Thanks For Your Comments.
