The Deserter GT build takes a big step forward in Episode 31 as we finally mount the windshield on the buggy! The Deserter GT uses a very rare Renault Dauphine windshield, held in place by two aluminum posts that must be spaced perfectly for each individual car. That means fabricating custom aluminum spacers — and it takes five attempts before getting everything just right.
Once the fit is dialed in, we seal the base with silicone and secure it in place. This is a nerve-racking but rewarding job that took time and patience, but the results are worth it. After more than 30 years of running plexiglass, this Deserter GT finally has a proper glass windshield again!
If you’re working on your own Deserter GT, this episode shows the much of the process, the challenges, and a few tips that can save time and headaches.
Heres where I got the seal: https://www.ebay.com/itm/375644157674 its a Vintique B-704220. There are other sellers out there too, use google but make sure its the 10' seal you are buying. I bought a 6' one first and it was a few feet too short.
