Thiruvathira Puzhukku
Ingredients
1. Red lentils – 1 cup
2. Yam (kachil) – 1 kg (5 cups)
3. Kizhangu – 1 no (1 ½ cup)
4. Elephant foot yam (chena) – 350 gm (3 cups)
5. Coloccasia – 1 no (2 cups)
6. Raw banana – 1 no
7. Chinese potato (koorka) – 250gm ( 1 ½ cup)
8. Sweet potato (opt) – 1 no (1 cup)
9. Salt – to taste
10. Chilli powder – 2 tsp
11. Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
12. Curry leaves – plenty
For masala
13. Grated coconut – 2 to 3 cups
14. Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
15. Garlic / shallots (opt) – 2 to3
16. Green chilli – 3 to 4
Garnish
17. Coconut oil – 2 tbsp
18. Squeezed curry leaves – plenty
Preparation
1. Pressure cook red lentils with salt 25 to 30 minutes. Set aside.
2. Pressure cook all the ingredients with salt, chilli powder & turmeric powder adding curry leaves till well done & mushy.
3. Crush the ingredients for masala with a little chilli powder & turmeric powder.
4. Boil together the boiled lentils & the cooked yam mix for 5 minutes, add the masala, boil 1 minute & make mushy slightly.
5. Garnish with the ingredients & mix well.
