550 concrete grinder comparison

In this video I compare a couple of single phase planetary concrete grinders. The new HTG-550 and the generation 4, XY-550. Take a look at the new design and features. The New HTG-550 from High Tech Grinding is a step forward, it's generation 6, and I'm proud to have had some input into some of the new features. The 550 play an important role in the grinder line up. It is single phase, so can run on domestic and standard power (does not require 3 phase or a generator). It's suitable for floor preparation - the planetary action giving a good finish, as well as grind and seal finishing.

These machines are probably as light as you want to go for polishing concrete.

Both these 550's run a WEG 4KW motor via an inverter. So under heavy load they do draw more than 10 amps. So from time to time they will trip a circuit breaker. Usually if you can reduce the load, lower the RPM, you will be fine. But keep in mind it is a single phase machine and it does have limits.

Improvements
The new model has more head weight.
The head to gearbox rotation has been increased from 3:1 on the XY-550 to just over 9:1 on the HTG-550.
The new HTG-550 can be dismantled for easier carrying into a tricky site - the motor and gearbox can be detached from the frame, and the swing weight can be taken off the frame.
It has swing weights - 2 positions for increasing or decreasing head pressure.
Easier access dust port - either side above the wheel (plug for opposite side port)
Better floating dust shroud

Dual USB charger port ( i think, or may be confusing with my 800)

N.B. the head diameter is actually 490mm on the new HTG-550. While you lose 60mm cutting path, it does reduce the load on the motor, also the faster spinning heads cut more and reduce side drag.
