Gurdwara Sri Tahliana Sahib Raikot
In 1705, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and a few Sikhs arrived here after travelling from Chamkaur, Machhiwara and Alamgir (and various villages in between).
Guru Gobind Singh arrived in the evening and rested under a Tahli tree, hence the name of the Gurdwara. During the following morning, a man named Noora Mahi who was the Paali (servant) of Rai Killae arrived to graze buffaloes.
Guru Sahib asked for some milk from the buffaloes. Noora Mahi said that he had already milked the buffaloes in the morning. Guru Gobind Singh pointed to a young female buffalo and asked Noora Mahi to milk it.
The servant said that the buffalo was an ausar joti, which means it can't give milk as yet, and he didn't have any utensils. Guru Gobind Singh provided Noora Mahi with a Ganga Sagar, which was a type of kettle full of (288) holes.
Noora Mahi was shocked when the ausar joti gave milk and was even more surprised when the Ganga Sagar held the milk. The servant returned to his master Rai Killae and told him what happened. At great risk to him and his family, Rai Killae arrived to welcome Guru Gobind Singh and put himself at Guru Sahib's service. Guru Gobind Singh asked for horseriders to be sent to Sirhind for news on his mother and young sons who were seperated at the Sirsa river. As Noora Mahi's sister was married at Sirhind, Rai Kalle sent him to find out what had happened.
Eventually, Noora Mahi returned and explained how the mughal's had tortured and executed Guru Sahib's mother and young sons at Sirhind after trying and failing to convert them to be muslims. Guru Gobind Singh accepted the news and dug the roots of a Kaahi plant declaring that the mughal empires roots have been uprooted. Guru Gobind Singh clearly predicted the fall of the mughal empire. At the time, Guru Gobind Singh, pleased with Rae Killae's service, presented him with a sword (Khanda), Ganga Sagar (with 288 holes) and a Rehal.
There are 4 Gurdwaras here, the main Darbar Sahib is at the centre. To the left, is Gurdwara Manji Sahib, where Guru Gobind Singh camped for about 3 days. Behind Gurdwara Manji Sahib is the site and Gurdwara Sahib where Guru Ji dug the Kaahi plant. To the right, of the main Darbar Sahib, is the Gurdwara Sahib housing the dried Tahli tree.
