We learn about the only recorded miracle of destruction found in the New Testament, in which Jesus has an interaction with a fig tree that is barren. We discover that this is symbolic of the sin of hypocrisy. He then goes into the temple and exposes hypocrisy inside the outer courts of the temple. Jesus turns over the tables of this system, telling them that this place is to be a house of prayer. This was a place that the gentiles would gather to seek the Lord and pray, and it was being used for profit. Jesus teaches the disciples about obstacles that can stand in our way of our prayers. Sin, un-forgiveness and un-belief. Jesus is looking for fruit in our lives. He is not looking for a shady place to get out of the sun, under a big beautiful fig tree. As Christians, may we dwell under the Shadow of The Almighty! As Psalm 1 states, may we meditate on Gods Word day and night, and in season may our lives produce fruit.
