Coral Snakes has the most potent venom but are not aggressive. They feed mostly on smaller lizards and frogs. Coral snakes spend most of their time underground and surface mainly during rainy and breeding seasons. In India there are 7 colorful species of coral snakes.
00:27 Beddome’s Coral Snake
Endemic to hills of peninsular India, at altitudes ranging between 550–1,100 m. They are found in the Eastern & Western Ghats (Karnataka, Kerala & Tamil Nadu). They have Broken Stripes, and Series of Blotches; and can reach a total length of 20 inches.

Are a nocturnal species and rarely seen at daytime. Preferred natural habitat is wet forests, at altitudes of 1–1,220 m (3.3–4,002.6 ft). They are endemic to the Western Ghats, Karnataka, Kerala & Tamil Nadu. They are Cherry-red with black cross bands, and can reach a length of 25 inches.

A newly discovered species found at altitudes ranging between 2000 and 6500 metres in Uttarakhand. They are reddish-Brown in colour, their length is yet to be assessed.

Are found in semi-evergreen and wet forests in the central part of Western Ghats, Goa, Karnataka, & Maharashtra. They have a Brown Dorsum and Salmon Ventrals, and can reach a maximum length of 21 inches.

Are mainly a nocturnal and terrestrial species inhabiting forested lowlands, hills and montane habitats up to an altitude of 2000 metres in Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh & North East India. They are Reddish-Brown with Thin Black Cross Bands and can reach a maximum length of 31 inches.

Are a nocturnal and burrowing snake which sometime shows activity during daylight having low temperature. They are found in the Indian Subcontinent, Except Central & North West India. They are Uniform Grayish-Brown with Reddish Ting and 22 inches in length.

Also known as black coral snake, found in hills at altitudes ranging between 4,000–6,000 feet (1,200–1,800 m) in the Western Ghats, of South West India. They are Red or Brown with Five Black Stripes and can reach a length of 43 inches.
