Zorro cosplay Duster (part 1)

In this video, I demonstrate how I made the duster for my Zorro cosplay! I also explain how I made the shirt and vest.

          NEEDED SUPPLIES

Pattern (I use a sleeveless shirt for the base pattern and alter the pattern accordingly)
Outer fabric (I use 108-inch wide black cotton)
Lining fabric (I use black satin)
Interfacing (I use the iron on kind)
Black thread
Fabric scissors
Pins (or wonder clips)
Measuring tape
Sewing machine (I use my Brother ST150HDH)

          PROCESS

     I begin by folding the outer fabric in half lengthwise and width wise. I place the sleeveless shirt on top of the cotton fabric so that the center of the shirt is on the width wise fold line. Then I start making my outline using the pins. I place pins about half an inch away from the perimeter of the shirt. I start at the neck line and work my way along the shoulder and down the arm hole.
     That's where I start to alter the pattern. I make an angular line from the bottom of the arm hole to the bottom edge of the coat. I make a curve to the end of the angular line to the width wise fold line. I also pin the middle together about 2 inches from the fold line. Then I cut out the pieces.
     I folded both pieces of the satin fabric in half lengthwise. I pinned one of the cotton pieces on top of the satin fabric and cut everything out.
     I used the french seam to sew the top 25 inches of the back panels together. I sewed the shoulder seams together the same way.
     I sewed the top 25 inches of the back panels of the lining together with a french seam. Then I added some welt pockets to the front lining pieces. The front and back pieces of the lining fabric were sewn together at the shoulders.
     I pinned the outer and lining fabric pieces together with the right sides facing each other. They were sewn together, flipped right side out, and topstitched everything in place.
