Dan Hickman is a retired U.S. Army Brigadier General who began his military career as an enlisted infantryman and later became a helicopter pilot. He served in Vietnam from September 1968 to 1969 with the Air Cavalry and later deployed to Iraq in 2003, where he commanded troops during the early stages of the war. Over the years, he rose through the ranks and led units from company to brigade level. Now living in Wilmington, North Carolina, General Hickman is the author of "A Thousand Chances: Air Cavalry in Vietnam’s Bloodiest", where he recounts his combat experiences and lessons learned over decades of service.
