LEADING THE WHOLE RACE TO GET 2ND IN THE LAST 10 METERS - Yamaha R3 Cup Race 2 Hockenheim

Race 2

The next day the second game started at 10am. An early one, so before this we had already exercised and stretched a bit. I did my ritual and was confident again to go bang this time. The lights went on and off and the race started I had another bad start but an extremely good exit from turn 2. I gin back into the corner in 7th place and 4 people braked out of the 2nd turn. This earned me a 3rd place. I decided to inspect well in the warm-up lap etc. where it was wet and where it wasn't. this turned out to be important information with the right visor choice. You have a black visor and a clear visor. You use the black one in the sun and the transparent one in overcast weather. The track was still a bit wet here and there and I could see this through the clear visor. A lot of guys had black visors. I knew what to watch out for on certain corners. But back to 3rd place I immediately picked up the pace and braked Nick out at the 3rd to last corner. Then I made a good exit to pass the then P1 on the straight. After 1 lap I was in the lead and this gave me confidence. We had also made adjustments to the suspension and this felt excellent. After the 2nd round we were already 2 seconds ahead and after 4 round 4 seconds. I decided to keep this pace and my times were extremely consistent. I didn't risk falling because I was in the lead. With me, however, drove an IDM rider who participated as a guest driver. He competed for the cup but not the points. He tried several times to brake and pass me, but each time he failed. He also tried the same trick every time. Namely passing me before the checkered flag he experimented to see if he could do this on the last lap. I would say not smart that he tried so many times because this became predictable. I was up all the way until I saw 3 laps on the board and then 2 and then all of a sudden I saw the finish flag and I swam to the right but it was too late he sat next to me and crossed the finish line first and I was furious. How could this happen? From lap 2 to the finish flag an error by the laplan that indicated how many laps were left. 0.043 seconds difference. If I knew it was the last lap I would have thrown it in and it would never have passed me. All in all I got a lot of respect from several riders including the IDM rider. I achieved a time of 1:43.279 not the fastest which is quite logical when you consider that I had 0 slipstreams and had driven this time entirely by myself on a fairly cold and wet track. Unfortunately I was not a champion but I was again catching up on nick, the deficit was now 11 points. It hurt to think about the 3 races I had thrown away and that there were actually 2 more to run. Just thinking "what if" but well we can't help that and we keep our heads high and take the wisdom we learned this year with us to next year.
