Starting pitchers on this opening day, Orel Hershiser for LA and veteran knuckleball pitcher Charlie Hough get the nod for the Florida Marlins.
The Marlins were in control of this game from the start a well played game from both sides as the Marlins get to Hershiser scoring their first run in the 2nd on a Walt Weiss triple down the right field line scoring Benito Santiago and Jeff Conine for the historic first Marlin runs one for the record books.
Charlie Hough goes 6 innings in the game allowing 3 runs on 6 hits including the first official Homerun hit in Joe Robbie stadium by Tim Wallach in the sixth inning as the Marlins maintain at least a one run lead throughout the game. Hough strikes out 3 while walking 1 in the game and replaced by Luis Aquino in the 7th. Orel Hershiser pitches 5 innings allowing 5 runs on 10 hits.
