Cultural Humility in Practice: Serving Clients with Trauma-Informed and Culturally Sensitive Skills

This training explores best practices for serving and engaging with diverse clients, managing challenging conversations, and improving the quality of interactions for both staff and clients. Participants will also learn how to apply trauma-informed skills to support clients as they navigate legal issues while protecting themselves from vicarious trauma.

Presenter: Franco Torres, Esq.

Franco Torres is a mission-driven legal executive, educator, and speaker with over 15 years of experience leading high-performing teams and building inclusive, scalable legal programs. He has designed and directed professional development systems, managed regional legal operations, and trained attorneys and advocates across nonprofit, academic, and legal institutions. His leadership style is grounded in strategy, mentorship, and a deep commitment to equity.

He has presented at law schools, DEI events, bar association CLEs, and legal conferences, educating attorneys, students, and community leaders alike. In addition to speaking engagements, Franco has developed and led internship programs in collaboration with leading colleges, universities, and law schools, creating mentorship pipelines and high-impact experiential learning opportunities. These partnerships have trained the next generation of legal professionals while supporting the mission of public interest law organizations across the country.

Currently based in Los Angeles, Franco has held leadership roles at the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, Catholic Charities, African Services Committee. He teaches Torts at Western State College of Law as well as immigration law at Fullerton College and has previously served as an instructor at St. John's University School of Law.
