South & West Midlands (in Preservation 1989-1997) UK
Narration Free, with some captions.
The Midlands area was one of the earliest parts of the British Isles to be industrialised. Naturally it became the target of the early railway promoters, who saw it as a rich seam to be tapped. Three railway companies were to serve it, the LNWR, the Midland and the Great Western. It is the railways of the latter two companies which came to dominate the south and west parts of the Midlands, the Midland having a main line which crossed the hub of the Midlands, Birmingham, diagonally. Part of that main line climbed the notorious Lickey Hills, seen in the opening scene of this video, with both LMS and GWR engines.
