1. The Universal and Inescapable Problem: Sin
Skeete begins by establishing the problem that makes Jesus necessary. He argues that the human condition is defined by sin, which he describes not merely as bad actions but as a state of rebellion and separation from God.
It's a Heart Problem: He often uses Jeremiah 17:9 to illustrate that the human heart is "deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked." The need, therefore, is not for behavior modification but for a heart transplant.
We Are Spiritually Bankrupt: He emphasizes that humans have nothing within themselves to offer God to fix this problem. Our own righteousness is like "filthy rags" (Isaiah 64:6). This creates an absolute dependency on an external solution.
2. Jesus as the Only Solution: The Substitute
This is the core of the sermon. Skeete presents Jesus not as a wise teacher or a moral example, but primarily as a substitute and sacrifice.
The Cross as the Central Event: The crucifixion is presented as the pivotal moment where Jesus took the punishment for sin that humanity deserved. He quotes key verses like Isaiah 53:5-6: "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities... and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all."
The Great Exchange: He explains the concept of substitutionary atonement: Jesus, the sinless one, took our sin, and in return, we can receive His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). This is the ultimate need—to be made right with a holy God.
Sharing the good news of the soon return of Jesus Christ, our Lord Creator and Redeemer.
