I just turned 40 — and somehow scored a wild deal on a $100 motorcycle in the Bay Area. Not a junker, just one of those rare finds you can’t pass up.
This is day 1 of 3 riding home to Bremerton: getting acquainted with the bike, running out of gas on the freeway, my helmet trying to disassemble itself mid-ride, and the long stretches of road that left plenty of time to think.
Riding has always been a near-meditative experience for me. You have to stay focused, fully present — so those heavier thoughts about turning 40 don’t haunt you. They just come in waves, interrupted by passing cars and tight turns.
