Revisit the Scottish Cemetery - Sushanta Guha

Shot in Kolkata, the documentary focuses on the Scottish Cemetery created during the British Empire by Scots, their gradual abandonment after independence, and their rehabilitation in 2008 by Scottish historians. During their stay, these specialists also helped to conserve and preserve Indian monuments of the same period, constructed by Hindu Kings. Through the documentary, the artist shows how understanding was built between the two countries thanks to the act of exchange and repair of those buildings: equally important for both countries to preserve their rich cultural heritage and history.

Sushanta Guha is presently working in Garhi Artist studios, Lalit Kala Akademi, Delhi. He leads workshops throughout India and overseas.
In 1982, Sushanta graduated and completed his post-graduate studies, at the Kala Bhavan in Shantiniketan. The Government of India awarded him with a Junior and Senior Fellowship as well as the National Cultural Scholarship. In 1998, at Camberwell College in London, he was awarded the Fellowship by Charles Wallace India Trust Award in Printmaking. In 2003, he received a Fulbright Fellowship at the Manhattan Graphic Center, in New York. The National Gallery of Modern Art, in Delhi, State Museum of Poland, New York Public Library, and Leicester Art Council, in the UK, have collections of his artwork.

This film was commissioned as part of Future Flow. The Future Flow project has seen 18 Scotland and India based young art workers collaborate to ideate, commission, and deliver the new exhibition 'From Where I Stand' and series of public events. 11 of these 18 curators have then worked together to develop and deliver From Where I Stand exhibition in its Scottish iteration.

Future Flow was a curatorial fellowship developed by Edinburgh Printmakers and Flow India working with the National Institute of Design, India, Edinburgh College of Art and the Centre for Research Collections at the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Napier University, and Queen Margaret University.
