In this video, we dive into the delicate and fascinating process of conserving four exquisite 19th-century drawings on fragile paper by Norwegian/Danish artist Martinus Rørbye. Known for his extensive travels and realistic depictions, Rørbye captured the essence of Mediterranean cultures, offering audiences back in Denmark a rare glimpse into distant lands they might never see for themselves.
These particular drawings, likely created during his time in Greece, tell stories of his journey. Two depict scenes from the Mani Peninsula, one from the island of Chios, and another from the island of Kasos.
