In this video, I attempt my first firings of my kiln! Previously I replaced the control electronics and high voltage wiring. I moved it into its final home, and try to fire it. I loaded it with kiln shelves, furniture, and some cones to know if it fired properly. During the first run, the temperature reading maxed out. Digging into things, I realized the temperature sensor I used couldn't go high enough. So I ordered a new one. While I was at it I re-built the daughter card for the Raspberry Pi. The new one only uses a single transistor to trigger a relay and it has the necessary connections for the new thermocouple sensor board. The other advantage is it now plugs directly onto the Raspberry Pi as a shield. After debugging the new hardware and associated software, I got that part working again. I could test fire my kiln again. This second time, it stalled out. At the high end of the temperature range it couldn't keep up with the temperature profile. I was hoping I could get by with the old elements, but it seems not. So I ordered some new elements and we'll try those when they come in!
