Chronic viral infections have plagued humanity for millennia. Now infections such as HIV, hepatitis B virus, herpes simplex and HPV are being targeted by new approaches that offer the prospect of their cure.
In this talk, Dr. Jerome discusses the latest progress using genome editing enzymes to disrupt essential viral nucleic acids, or the human genes encoding receptors needed for viral entry. He also reviews the challenges still ahead in bringing this technology into the clinic.
Keith Jerome, MD, PhD, professor and head, Virology Division, UW Laboratory Medicine, director, UW UW Molecular Virology Laboratory, director, UW Virology Laboratory, member, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
